About Us
The art of the Almighty
in creation of the would is awful. Still, some imperfections are
visible sometimes. An orphan may be termed as one of these. Childhood
shorn of mother's love and adolescence bereft of parents' affection is
a miserable scene. The great Hindi novelist - Prem Chand has eloquently
summarized that a child shorn mother is the most pitiable creature on
the earth.
Every child yearns to
live and progress which itself is dependent on outside help and
support. The importance of support is explicated through a story in
which a traveler got complete comfort amidst a dense forest during the night
after seeing a stranger sleeping nearby. However, in the morning, he
found that his night companion was actually dead. He could repose
because of 'support' (though notional). This is even more true in case
of unfortunate children with no parents. The position of a girl is
obviously more vulnerable.
By dint of a little
support from the society, these flowers can also blossom. They, too, can
be grown up as useful, normal and responsible citizens. Possibly an
individual may not be good enough to take care of this responsibility,
but jointly this end is achievable by contributing a bit by each of
them.
Up to the near past, people
were living in joint families, and that too, living at one place for
decades together. In absence of social security, on behalf of the state
of fall back upon distress, joint families were like insurance cover
for any calamity that might have occurred to any member. If any of the
earning members died, others looked after the children of
the deceased. Now, family has become a small unit consisting of husband, wife
and their children. If husband (generally earner) dies, the life of
the rest of the family becomes very harsh. In some cases, husband (though
alive) becomes alcoholic and neglects his family. In all such cases,
children particularly girls, are the first victim of the situation. If
both of the parents die, the situation becomes worse.
To mitigate this bad
situation, Arya Kanya Sadan was established by a socially
concerned and kind hearted lady namely Mrs. Shanti Sehgal in the year
1992, initially with three girls.
